Roger L. Crique Dominican Heritage Slate Desk Plaque | La Gallera

Description

La Gallera captures a familiar scene from an earlier era of Dominican country life—a gathering place where friends and neighbors came together around the traditional gallera. This natural slate desk plaque portrays two magnificent roosters facing one another in the ring while spectators gather beneath the tropical sun, sharing conversation, excitement, and the atmosphere of the countryside.

Created by Roger L. Crique as part of the Dominican Heritage Collection, this piece recalls a tradition that was once an especially visible part of social life in many Dominican communities. Rather than depicting the fight itself, the artwork focuses on the gathering, the colorful roosters, the people, and the cultural setting surrounding the gallera.

With the words “Tradición, Amistad y Pasión,” La Gallera preserves a snapshot of another time—a piece of Dominican history remembered by generations who grew up seeing these gatherings as part of everyday community life.
