Roger L. Crique Dominican Heritage Slate Desk Plaque | Buck Canel – La Voz que nos Unía

Description

Buck Canel – La Voz que nos Unía celebrates an era when a radio could bring the excitement of the sporting world directly into a Dominican home. Before television became commonplace, youngsters and families gathered around the radio to follow baseball, boxing, and the unforgettable voices that made every moment come alive.

Created by Roger L. Crique as part of the Dominican Heritage Collection, this natural slate desk plaque was inspired by Roger’s own childhood memories in Santo Domingo. The young boy pictured listening intently to the old tabletop radio represents Roger himself, captivated by the voice of legendary sportscaster Buck Canel and the familiar words, “No se vayan… que esto se pone bueno.”

For an entire generation, the crackle of the radio and the excitement of a great announcer could transport a child far beyond his own neighborhood. A baseball glove and ball recall the dreams of countless youngsters who listened, imagined the action, and carried their love of sports outside into the streets and playing fields.

Buck Canel – La Voz que nos Unía is a tribute to a legendary voice, the golden age of radio, and those childhood moments when all it took was a radio and a little imagination to feel as though you were right there at the game.
